Snapchat Camera Messaging App for Android
Snapchat is a camera-first social app from Snap Inc that opens straight to the lens instead of a feed, so you tap for a photo or hold for video and send it to friends. Snaps and chats disappear by default, Stories last 24 hours, and Spotlight surfaces community clips you can watch or submit to. Lenses, Filters and Bitmoji cover the playful side, while Memories keeps saved captures for later editing and resharing. Snapchat group video calls support up to 16 people at once with lenses running live. Snap Map shares location with chosen friends, and Ghost Mode hides it. Frequently Asked Questions
What is Snapchat used for?
It is a camera-first messaging app, so the point is quick visual conversation rather than long text threads. You send photos and videos that vanish after they are viewed, post 24-hour Stories, chat one to one or in groups, make audio and video calls, and browse Spotlight clips. Memories keeps the moments you want to save, and Snap Map shows friends who have chosen to share their location.
Is Snapchat free to download and use?
The official Snapchat app is free, and it is supported by advertising plus optional paid extras such as Snapchat+. Some lenses, filters and upgrades sit behind in-app purchases, while messaging, Stories and Spotlight stay free to use. Builds labelled MOD APK are not published by Snap Inc and are distributed outside Google Play, so verify where a modified file came from and what it changes before installing it.
Which Android version does the app need?
Recent builds install on Android 6.0 and newer, and the Google Play listing shows the exact minimum for your device and region. Camera, lens and video-call features depend on hardware, so older phones may render effects more slowly or drop some AR lenses. Check Play before sideloading any alternative build.
Do Snaps and chats really disappear?
They disappear from the conversation by default, but they are not invisible forever. Anyone can take a screenshot or photograph the screen with another device, and the app tells you when a screenshot is captured. Memories, screenshots and a friend's camera roll can all keep a copy, so treat every Snap as something that could be saved.
What can you do in a group chat or call?
Group chats hold text, photos, videos and voice notes, and Group Stories let members post into a shared timeline. Video calls support up to 16 participants at once, with lenses and filters available during the call, and Friendmojis add shared Bitmoji stickers. Names, chat colours and notifications can be adjusted per conversation.
Who can see my location on Snap Map?
Only friends you choose to share with, and you control it per person. Ghost Mode hides your position from everyone, and you can limit sharing to specific friends or selected places instead of going fully private. Location sharing changes are applied immediately in the app.
